The Pioneer Activity Center is the Athletic and Recreation facility on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus where students, faculty, staff and community members can come to address their need to be more active and desire to achieve a healthier lifestyle. The Pioneer Activity Center has trained student employees whose objective is to provide the information and insight to help our members/students develop a healthier self.  The facility has a multitude of activity spaces located throughout the on-campus complex which includes:

  • Six lane, 25-yard swimming pool
  • Multi-purpose activity center that includes a six lane, 200-meter running track
  • 18,000-square-foot weight training area, consisting of a multifunctional training area, cable machines, free weight zone with 14 power racks with rogue bumper plates and 10 platforms to perform Power and Olympic lifts
  • Four synthetic basketball/volleyball/tennis courts, two racquetball courts, and three full length wood basketball courts, primarily for informal recreation with three lane running track above
  • Cardio loft, housing 50 pieces of assorted equipment ranging from treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, stair steppers, rowers, and Jacob's Ladder machine
  • Outdoor multi-sport artificial turf field
  • Three exercise studios
  • Dedicated stretching space/classroom

The Department of Athletics provides a comprehensive program that provides unique opportunities for recreation, wellness, and student development; promotes healthy lifestyles to the university and surrounding communities through personal and team challenges; hands-on educational experiences and competitive activities; aids in student recruitment and retention; and supports the University's core values and strategic initiatives to enhance the quality of life through the balance of work and play.
