Elton S. Karrmann Library is the information focal point for the UW-Platteville campus providing help to faculty, students, staff and patrons through professional librarians and experienced support staff.  The information desk is located on 2nd. Regular Semester Hours are Monday – Thursday 7:30 a.m.–9 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m.– 6 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m.–9 p.m.

Help is provided using print, electronic and multi-media resources. The collections include 285,000 books, 82,000 electronic resources, 5,000 government publications; 7,000 audiovisual materials.  Journal and newspaper titles are offered full-text online. A statewide interlibrary loan network connecting all University of Wisconsin libraries supplements these materials. Special collections include the Instructional Material Lab on the first floor and the Southwest Wisconsin Room which contains the University Archives, the Area Research Center, and the Southwest Wisconsin Collection located on the ground floor of Ullsvik Hall.

The library’s resources can be accessed either in the library from over 75 general access computers or remotely from computer labs, residence hall rooms, offices or homes. The library also offers a variety of study areas, reading rooms, audiovisual equipment including listening areas, assistive technology equipment, a U-Record Studio, a Virtual Reality Room, collaboration station on 2nd floor, and a smartboard on the 1st floor. The library is committed to supporting individual study and research. We also offer paperbacks, movies and current bestsellers for fun and relaxation.

Library Use Instruction

University librarians are available to provide library use instruction for individuals or any classes or to assist with any assignment-specific needs. Arrangements are made with the librarian assigned to work with a specific department. Call 608.342.1668 to find the librarian for your area.

Distance Education Support

The Karrmann Library provides support of information resources to faculty incorporating library components into distance learning environments and to students taking courses at a distance from UW System institutions.

The IML is a curriculum library that supports the School of Education with materials that facilitate Pre K-12 grade education. Its resources include books, audiovisual materials, and three-dimensional toys. Its collection also contains selective resources that assist the teaching profession.

This resource contains UW-Platteville’s archives, the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Area Research Center, and a reading room. Its collections consist of books as well as extensive manuscript and iconographic primary source materials that pertain to the history of UW-Platteville, Southwest Wisconsin, and genealogy.
